Kristin & Frank’s Wedding – January 13th 2018

Whenever I get a referral from a past client, it’s an honor to be able to help. Whenever I get a referral from my good friend Donald and Marie, I know I’m in for an awesome night. When I met with Kristin and Frank for the first time to discuss their wedding vision, my premonition was confirmed. Kristin’s number one priority was that her friends and family dance. When she told me about the music she wanted, I knew this would be a fun, albeit weird (in the best possible sense of the word) crowd to play with. Not only that, the setting for their wedding was amazing. The Los Verdes Golf Course overlooks the Pacific Ocean in Rancho Palos Verdes. (Plus, their day-of coordinator, Greg, kept things running perfectly on time.)

Once Kristin and Frank said “I Do,” the guests adjourned to the terrace patio for the cocktail hour, while Greg zoomed his 6-seater golf cart with Kristin, Frank, and their photographer Kimberly out for some beautiful sunset photos. (You just had to follow the excited screams as they whipped around the sharp turns and steep hills.) Kimberly wasted no time getting the perfect shots, and once again they were ushered back in style (and significantly less screams this time) with time to take a breather before their Grand Entrance.

Kristin and Frank did not want many formalities. A quick Grand Entrance, a heartfelt thank you speech, and a picturesque first dance led into dinner. Two quick but sweet toasts and some table visits later, the guests (and especially Kristin) were ready to dance. Sure enough, her entire wedding joined her and Frank on the dance floor. One absolutely magic moment happened right before the Cake Cutting. We did a Married Couples Dance and found one couple that was married 50 years. I asked them to give some advice to the newlyweds, and they regaled everyone with some wise words. But the real surprise was the song Kristin and Frank chose for this moment. “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait was actually Kristin’s mom and step dad’s wedding song 25 years ago.

Once the cake was cut, it was back to the dancing. That’s when the requests began! The guests seemed surprised that I would take their suggestions. I actually LOVE taking requests, because it helps me get a real feel for the kind of dance party we are in for. Well, this dance party would be FILLED with the greatest hits of the 90s, including ‘NSYNC, Spice Girls, Salt ‘n Pepa, Brittney Spears, and even an off the wall request for Wilson Phillips. Not only did Kristin, Frank, and their friends dance, the dance floor kept growing with each request played. I kept telling everyone, “Thank you for reminding me why I love doing this!” When it was finally time to do our big finale, I agreed to keep playing music until everyone had exited the room. Well…we practically had to kick them out, because even with all the lights on and the staff cleaning up, a few die-hard partiers kept on dancing. If it wasn’t for the photo booth that everyone (including yours truly) jumped in for a couple of last minute photos, I think they would still be dancing.
