The ceremony was meaningful and personal. The guests then made their way back to the Polo Room for cocktails and appetizers. When it was time to begin the reception, the bridal party danced their way into the room followed by our newlyweds. Ken, who used to be a dance instructor, choreographed a special surprise First Dance with Abby. They asked me if I could mix Journey’s “Open Arms” into “In The Mood” cut down to just a couple of minutes. I was happy to help them pull this off, and when the beat dropped and they started swing dancing, everyone cheered and watched in awe as these two tore up the dance floor.
After dinner, Abby and her dad did their Father/Daughter dance and were joined by Ken and his daughter Ciane. During the Mother/Son dance, as Ken danced with his mom, Abby and Ken’s son Niko joined them. Just like the sand ceremony at the wedding ceremony, these two families are now blended not only like grains of sand but by formal dances as well. (Hey, for a DJ, that’s a powerful thing!) The guests were itching to join them, so we broke the ice and got everyone up on the dance floor. Abby and her nurse friends and coworkers were out on the floor all night. Ken summed up the night perfectly by mentioning to me how “surprisingly little” went wrong throughout the evening. I told him when you have a team like you guys put together, expect nothing less than perfection!
