Fast forward to Sunday evening. The guests were arriving at the Spanish Hills Country Club, and the mood was set by a fantastic pianist, Vince Torbey, who played the baby grand in the bar area, as well as his own keyboard for the ceremony. Tim was nervously standing and talking with his best man and parents. I saw Tim looking out the window, and I asked if he was trying to spot Tiffany, whom he had not seen yet. His answer was perfect. He said no, if he saw her now he would absolutely lose it. And lose it he almost did a little while later when he saw his bride for the first time walking down the aisle. Their ceremony was just like them, personal and heartfelt. In fact, Tim had a little surprise of his own up his sleeve. He started his vows by saying he promised himself as a child not to marry a girl unless he fit the description of his favorite James Taylor song. At the conclusion of is vows, I played a snippet of “Your Smiling Face” so everyone could hear the song that matched his feelings for Tiffany so perfectly.
I have always believed that weddings are organic with a life force of their own. The best weddings are those that evolve perfectly with only a little bit of guidance from the vendors who are in tune with the bride and groom’s vision, rather than being forced. Tiffany and Tim loved this philosophy, and their wedding was the absolute definition of a vision becoming a reality. The guests were taken on a journey in only a few short hours. From the charming toasts, to the exquisite meal, to the packed dance floor, and of course, to the best Father/Daughter surprise I have seen in a long time, every element of their wedding went exactly how it should have…Tiff and Tim’s way.
