Katie & James’ Wedding – September 2nd 2018

When two college kids from California meet each other in the airport heading off on a class trip to Italy, then proceed to spend the whole week of that trip getting to know each other, you know romance is bound to bloom. Then, when the same two people move to Washington DC to start a life together, you know things are really serious. But to come full circle and plan a wedding in Burbank is just poetic. Calamigos Equestrian was the picture perfect setting for just such an occasion. Katie and James looked so happy as they said their “I Do’s” in front of 100 of their closest friends and family members.

Making their way to The Polo Room, Katie and James entered the ballroom to the roaring sounds of their guests cheering to the rocking sounds of Disturbed’s “You’re Mine.” They thanked their guests for coming, and then James asked Katie to dance. Their first dance was “I Get To Love You” by Ruelle, which was so touching, Katie couldn’t help but shed a tear. (As did about half the room at that point.)

I have seen many photographers go to great lengths to capture the perfect moment, but Natalja from Two Moon Photography won the Ninja award that evening. I don’t think she ever stopped moving. Which was a good things, because once the meal was through, the crowd flooded the dance floor and wouldn’t leave. We were building to an amazing fever pitch, when Katie and James’ moms came running in with some surprise party favors like hats, boas, giant sun glasses, etc. The party took a turn for the weird at that point, as the guests donned their new apparel.

But just when I thought things couldn’t get any stranger, the song requests started coming in. I quickly realized where this party needed to go, and song after song got the guests more and more excited. They sang, they danced, they partied! I’ve never seen 100 people make so much noise. It was just one of those perfect nights where everything seemed to fall into place, and the celebration was as high energy as it was sincere. I told Katie and James I liked them when we first met over Facetime back in January, but I knew I loved them when they picked the song “Space Jam” as their closing tune. What an unforgettable night!
