Kayla & Bryson’s Wedding – Saturday, February 16th 2019

As a comic book fan, I’m a sucker for great origin stories. As a Wedding MC, I get to hear some amazing ones. Kayla and Bryson’s story is so great, it was repeated over and over throughout the night. They met when Bryson was asked by a friend to kick Kayla out of a party. He felt so bad he asked for her number and they went on their first date…exactly 10 years before the day of their wedding.  Bryson’s aunt Sabrina presided over the ceremony behind the beautiful Little White House at Calamigos Equestrian Center. It was an unusually rainy February, but the skies were clear on this Saturday and the personal ceremony set the stage for a warm and fun evening ahead.

It’s always a pleasure when I get to work at Calamigos, but it’s even better when I have a great team to work with. Krissy Allegra was their wedding coordinator and Shannan Leigh was their photographer. Both of these ladies were friends with Kayla back in High School so the wedding was like a big reunion of sorts. They all did an exceptional job, especially getting Kayla and Bryson through their table visits and photos in record time, even with over 200 guests in The Polo Room.

Kayla’s family is Assyrian and Armenian, so it was no surprise to me when, during the couple’s first dance, family members started coming out throwing money over the newlyweds heads. What amused me was this did come as a bit of a shock to Kayla and Bryson. Showering the newly married couple with cash is a modern take on the traditional Armenian custom of showering the bride and groom with sweets, nuts, and coins for good luck. Their luck continued throughout the night as the family wasted no opportunity to do this again and again. Another magic moment happened when Kayla’s cousins did a rap to the tune of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

Of course, you can’t have an Armenian wedding and not expect some traditional dancing. It was easy to pack the floor with family and friends from both sides, but when we played the songs Kayla and her family had picked out, it took the dancing to a whole new level. At one point, Kayla and Bryson were lifted up in chairs above the dance floor. As the night went on, the dance floor only got crazier and crazier. We had a blast mixing American and Persian music, but even more fun with the awesome music requests that kept coming in all night.

The only thing that could have made this amazing night better was donuts…oh wait…they brought in a donut maker for the last two hours of the party. It was a night I will not soon forget. Thank you Kayla and Bryson for such an epic evening.
